Battle Angel Alita was always more popular in the west than in Japan, and because of this merchandise for it is quite thin on the ground.  At the moment there are a few model kits and a soundtrack, but expect a lot more to come out when James Cameron's live action film is released.

Soundtracks:
Soundtracks are obligatory for any anime series, so even though there were only two episodes of Battle Angel Alita made, it comes as no surprise to see two CDs were released.  Another Story (pictured) contains music from the anime as well as two drama tracks, where as the Image Album features music inspired by it.

Computer Game:
The console game Gunnm Martian Memory was released in Japan for the Sony PlayStation back in 1998.  The game was an action RPG in which you took the role of Gally as she battled to recover her lost memory.  Original creator Yukito Kishiro was involved in the game's design and it is highly regarded by fans of the series.

Garage Kits:
Although little official merchandise exists for Battle Angel Alita, there are several 'garage kit' models available.  These kits start life as a custom built model made by a fan, who then reproduces them in kit form for others to build and paint.  The quality varies, but there are some really good Battle Angel Alita ones available.

Obligatory Odd Merchandise!

Battle Angel Alita Doll:  We were never sure if these dolls were an official release, but thanks to our reader xSchmitterSx we now know that they were.  The dolls were released in limited numbers back in 2000 by Marmit Co Ltd, and were only available in Japan.  Each doll comes in its own box and features a removable coat and realistic hair, so that you can dress up and style your little cyborg killer to make her all pretty for her violent bounty hunting missions.  There is also an alternative design available which has her in a red jumpsuit with yellow leg-warmers, and both dolls were available in two versions - one with face paint and one without.  They also came with a variety of interchangeable hands to increase their limited poseability.  Well, she'd kick Barbie's ass any day of the week...

Availability & Prices:
Soundtracks:
Both the Image Album and Another Story soundtracks were only released in Japan and are very difficult to come across in the UK.  Japanese CDs frequently cost upwards of £20 when you do find them due to the import costs, but you may find the cheaper on auction sites*

Computer Games:  As well as being released in Japan only, Gunnm Martian Memory was also released on an older console.  This means that it is pretty difficult to get hold of in the UK, and although some import shops may sell it we haven't seen it for sale which makes it hard to estimate how much it would cost. If you find anywhere selling this game let us know.

Garage Kits:  Although there are several designs available the most common appear to be the 'Rebirth' kit shown above and one of Alita in a brown coat.  Both of these kits appear regularly on dedicated model kit sites such as Frontier Models, where they sell for around £60 each, and some sites will also build and paint the models for you for an additional charge (usually about £40).  Other kits are less common but can still be found at trade fairs and in some dedicated model shops.

Dolls:  We have never seen these dolls for sale, and as they were a limited run several years ago they would be very hard to get hold of now.  Your best bets are auction sites* and specialist Japanese retailers that sell second hand goods such as Mandarake.  If you find anywhere selling these dolls let us know.

*Auction sites can be rife with unscrupulous individuals who will knowingly sell you pirated goods.  Although the risk is mainly with DVD and CD purchasing, there is a notable amount of pirated toys and apparel cropping up too.  To minimise the risk of being ripped off make sure you check Digital Animé's excellent Piracy FAQ.
