The Nightmare of Fabrication is a beautifully drawn full-colour manga from character designer Yoshitoshi ABe.  The short story is 18 pages long and can be found in his Lain: An Omnipresence in Wired artbook.  It is a bonus side story to the anime series that has not been released separately to our knowledge.

Availability:

The manga is available within the pages of the Lain: An Omnipresence in Wired artbook, a heavy hardback tome that will usually set you back a whopping £50 or so on import.  The book is superb and, for the most part, dual language.  But the manga is sadly completely in Japanese.

However, many moons ago Rich came across a copy of the manga online which had been translated to English.  Unfortunately the details of where it came from were lost when Rich's old PC gave up the ghost, so apologies for not crediting the source.  We will point out that this is one of the only parts of the Omnipresence artbook which doesn't have an English translation within the book's pages, so we offer it here for those who wish to appreciate it in all its creepy glory.  We still highly recommend purchasing the book itself as it is one of the finest artbooks available.  Pages read from left to right, read left hand page before the right hand one, enjoy...
