Claymore returns for its final set of episodes, and decides to end with one hell of a bang as we get plenty of action in this great series closing moments.

Volume 5 kicks right off where we were left, as a trio of Awakened beings fight against a whole band of Claymores, who are proving to be more then a match for the monsters.  But even though they could stand against 3 awakened being without any losses, there is still a small army of them on the way.

Meanwhile, Roki, who has been travelling alone, has come across a mysterious man called Isely, and a young girl named Pricilla.  They are travelling to Pieta, and convince Roki to join them, when they mention the high number of Claymores currently in that town.  But it isn’t long before Roki finds out that Pricilla is in-fact an awakened being, the same one that killed Teresa in front of Clare all those years ago.

Back in Pieta, the Claymores face a turn for the

worst as Rigolo, Isely’s most powerful subordinate appears, and kills the strongest of the Claymore with ease, forcing Clare and the others to try and work together in order to protect Miria, the strongest remaining Claymore.  But Clare is pushing herself to her very limit, and may awaken if she isn’t careful.

The battle against Rigolo continues in Volume 6, as Roki races towards Pieta, where Clare has managed to partially awaken, her legs becoming monstrous and deformed, yet giving her a huge boost in speed, allowing her to save Miria from Rigolo.  With all this power, she is able to defeat Rigolo with ease, but the battle isn’t over yet.

With Clare at her absolute limit, Pricilla appears, in her awakened form, and Clare chases after her, ignoring her own bodies state, in hopes of finally getting her revenge.  But will Pricilla be too much for her?  Will she be able to stop herself from fully awakening?  And will Roki and the other Claymores be able to help her?

Volumes 5+6 are certainly the most action-packed volumes in the entire series, even though most of the episodes are focused on a single battlefield.  In my opinion, it was also a lot more emotional this time round, with many characters that are suddenly introduced, but are given reason enough to care about them, only for them to fall in battle.  The story itself pretty much takes a back seat in order to accommodate for the amount of fighting, but the series leaves itself open to the possibility of a sequel, which would be interesting to see,

as the anime had taken a different route to the manga in its final episodes.

Extras:

Along with the Clean Opening & Closing and some trailers, there are a pair of commentary tracks with some voice actors.  Catelin Glass (Deneva) and Jamie Marchi (Helen) cover episode 19, while Stephanie Young (Clare) and Brina Palencia (Pricilla) chat during episode 26.

There is also a production art gallery, and an interview with the Art Settings director, Nabuhito Sue, who talks about creating the series scenery and its own personal look.
