If you like anime that is distinctly different to anything western, filled with speed lines and is just insane then would love Golden Boy.  It is one of the best anime comedies I have seen because it just goes from one joke to the next with a fast-paced movement and often parodies other anime and itself.  These parodies include characters launching at great speed towards someone, people on fire to portray anger and various perversions.  The reason they are great is because they are always done in completely normal situations and VERY over-the-top!  When someone spills coffee and Kintaro launches forward to clean it with a timer in the corner, you can’t help but laugh.

Golden Boy isn’t all great though as some of the episode take his perversions too far and they make up an entire episode.  This just makes it too dirty and the best episodes are the ones that only touch on his perversions.  I wouldn’t normal complain too much about this but there are only six episodes of Golden Boy and out of these only episodes 1, 2 and 6 are incredibly funny – the others only produce mild guffaws.

Mixed bag then?  Well yes it isn’t perfect but if you are planning to have some mates round and you are drinking lots and want to imitate speed lines and going AAAAHHHH!!!, then look no further.
