This absolutely brilliant gothic actioner from Gonzo/Digimation - the makers of Gatekeepers - is a tale about a Vampire employed by the Hellsing foundation (a group of devout Protestant Vampire hunters who work for church, crown and country) as the ultimate vampire killing weapon - why do it with a human when you can do it with a vampire?  The first episode the aptly named 'The Undead' is set in Cheddar.

Yes, that very same Cheddar in Somerset, home of the Cheddar Gorge and the cheese of the same name.  The only problem is that their Cheddar doesn't coincide with "our" Cheddar - it's a lack of towering cliffs and gorges type thing - so Arucard our vampire hero waltzes into town to clean out a vampiric priest.  Along the way he meets a girl named "Little Kitty" or Sera Victoria who quickly falls under the whim of the evil boo-hiss vampire priest and for her troubles gets shot through the lung by Arucard who is shaping up to be a bastard.  He then does a complete U TURN and turns into caring compassionate Vampire "Aw he's cute and caring, really a puppy under a hard exterior" he sires Sera (Sire: That's bites her and turns her into a Vampire for all you Vampire speak illiterate people out there!) and our Hero and Heroine are united in more than one way so to speak but to find out how you'll have to watch the rest of the volume.

The DVD is good, a regular affair of what we've come to expect from ADV titles.  The extras are good - this includes clean open close titles and an excellent Music Video that also poses as the Trailer.  This is great fun to watch, especially for the laughing home made vampire catholic priest who throws swords, and the preaching done by the leader of the Hellsing foundation - Sir Integra Hellsing.  All in all this is amazing animated piece worthy of all true fans collections.
