This Review is part of an Animetion UK experiment, wherein we will watch some older anime titles whilst completely blasted on a variety of alcoholic beverages.  The results may be understandably incoherent...

Current Alcohol Level:  9 Cans of Carlsberg (440ml) & 1 'Ronin' Cocktail (Saké, Vodka & Lemon Juice), Jack Daniels & ginger, 2 Sex on the Beach Cocktails

The second part of the 'legendary' Darkness Trilogy to receive a viewing in this experiment, Alien of Darkness is an absolutely blatant rip-off of Ridley Scott's Alien, BUT WITH LESBIANS!

Let's line up the similarities.  Firstly the plot - the crew of the Muze visit a derelict spaceship and unknowingly bring back with them an alien life form which has wiped out the crew of the ship they have visited.  One by one the crew are bumped off, leaving just the heroine and her pet.  There's a shocking rip-off of the famous Alien breakfast scene before the heroine begins consulting with the ships talking computer and tools up with what are obvious rip offs of the pulse rifle and smart gun from Aliens.  It's only a matter of time before the monster is blasted out of the airlock...

On the plus side the Alien rip does mean that the film has a plot, and there are some surprisingly moving moments towards the end of the film too.  The animation is also not bad and there are plenty of (unfortunately obviously cut) lesbian sex scenes to enjoy too, whilst the voice acting is a touch above the norm as well.

Alien of Darkness is by far the best of the Darkness Trilogy, it has an above average plot - particularly for a hentai film - plenty of lesbian sex and some good moments that you really don't expect.  It's obviously not great, there is far too much tentacle rape in it for my liking and most of the enjoyment comes from ranting about how it COMPLETELY RIPS OFF ALIEN, but it's certainly not as bad as you expect.  The best hentai title available in the UK.

Best Bit:  It's like Alien, BUT WITH LESBIANS!!!

Worst bit:  The shockingly predictable 'twist' ending after the credits.
