Kenji Kawai's music has often been sited as one of the best aspects of the Ghost in the Shell films, and this promo single - given out in limited numbers in Japan shortly before the film's release - shows why.

The 3" mini-CD contains a single track - the haunting ending theme of Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, Follow Me.  Based on music by Western musicians Joaquin Rodriqo, Herbert Kretzmer and Hal Shapey, Follow Me benefits from some perfectly understated arrangement from Kawai, and also from a strong vocal performance - in English - from Kimiko Itoh.  Unlike many Japanese singers performing in English, Itoh's pronunciation is very good, which allows her beautifully smokey voice to shine through the song's evocative lyrics.

If you could level any criticism at the song it is probably that it is perhaps too understated, it often seems like the song is about to step up a gear but it never does.  Also, whilst this promo CD is no doubt a valuable collectors item, there is little point in trying to track it down when the song is available on the full OST, which is already available in the UK from Beez.  At the end of the day Follow Me is a hauntingly beautiful track and this CD is nice to have, but unless you are a collector pick up the OST, it has the song on it and it'll be cheaper and easier than trying to find this Promo for sale.

Extras:

The CD is housed in a card slipcase which carries the lyrics to the song in English on the back.
